R-404A is a near-azeotropic HFC blend long used in supermarket racks, walk-in freezers, reach-in cabinets, ice machines, and transport refrigeration, where its low glide suits flooded and DX low-temperature systems.
Its high GWP means new equipment is moving to lower-GWP alternatives such as R-448A, but R-404A remains the correct service refrigerant for the systems designed around it. Charge as a liquid from an upright cylinder to preserve blend composition.

Venting refrigerant to the atmosphere is prohibited; recover it with approved equipment. Confirm the refrigerant against the equipment nameplate before charging — refrigerants are not interchangeable, and the wrong charge can damage equipment and void its warranty.
Cylinders ship non-refillable and single-use. Do not refill, heat above 125 °F (52 °C), or transport a cylinder outside its upright, secured position.
